Context
Printed order of service for Near East Relief Day, the designated annual Sunday on which NER asked American Protestant congregations to set aside the regular order of worship in favor of a service centered on the Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian relief work. The bulletin lists hymns ("O Worship the King, All-Glorious Above," "Lead On, Oh King Eternal," "Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life"), a prayer, scripture readings, and a story slot for which it recommends "A Son of the Star" or the Near East Relief pageant written by Professor Augustine Smith, followed by the financial appeal.
Augustine Smith (1874–1965) was a hymnologist and longtime professor of religious education at Boston University; his Near East Relief pageant was one of the standardized scripts NER's Department of Religious Promotion circulated to congregations during the early 1920s. The order of service is undated and is the right-hand page of a folded program.
